Letter from the Mayor
Buc Weatherby
City of Shamrock Mayor
Greetings!
Thanks for choosing Shamrock as a stop in your travel or business. We are proud of our town and proud to have you as a guest. Hopefully, your schedule will allow you to enjoy some of the attractions and experiences Shamrock has to offer.
One of Historic Route 66's most photographed landmarks is our renovated art deco-style Tower Station and U-Drop Inn as it's likeness was featured in the Walt Disney movie "Cars". Tourists from all over the world have visited this landmark built in 1938 and located at the corner of U.S. Highway 83 and Historic Route 66.
This stretch of Route 66 has been renamed Bill Mack Boulevard after one of our hometown Celebrities. Shamrock's own Bill Mack wrote the Leann Rimes hit song "Blue." Bill is heard daily on "Willie's Place" on XM Satellite Radio Channel 13 and Sirius Satellite Radio Channel 64 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Recently declared a Texas Historical Landmark is the Shamrock Water Tower. It's the tallest riveted water tower in the State of Texas. A historic park area is now complete under the water tower and well worth a short drive to visit at the south end of Shamrock's downtown district.
Also, I don't think you will find a better museum depicting the old west and Texas Panhandle history than Shamrock's Pioneer West Museum. Our museum is located one block east and one block north of the historic water tower at 204 N. Madden.
Hungry? Shamrock has some great restaurants featuring authentic Texas-style cooking. What are you hungry for: steak, Mexican food, pizza, home cooked dishes or popular franchises? Shamrock's got it, so enjoy.
Shamrock's downtown area has a variety of businesses including a movie theatre, Radio Shack, Dollar General, Family Dollar, various clothing stores, a hardware and lumber yard and some of the finest antique shops you will find anywhere.
Your Shamrock hotel stay entitles you to a free round of golf at the Shamrock Country Club or free tickets to most events that are scheduled during your stay with us.
If your travels have you near our city on the weekend nearest March 17, make plans to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with us. Shamrock's citizens all turn Irish and the town really comes alive on St. Patrick's weekend. There's fun for the whole family with a Friday night kick-off banquet featuring a Texas BBQ. A Saturday morning parade, carnival, dance featuring nationally famous recording artist.
I hope you enjoy your stay in our town and will come back to see us again.
